BEST pint in the Fylde... we'll drink to that!
Punters at The Saddle in Marton are raising a glass after being awarded the best pub on the coast by real ale enthusiasts.
The Whitegate Drive local has been named the best in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde by members of CAMRA – the Campaign for Real Ale.
And the resort's oldest pub is now just a few steps away from being named best in the country after making it to the regional final.
The Saddle, which dates back to 1764, has been vying for the title for decades and has usually been pipped to the post by the Cartford Arms in Little Eccleston or The Taps in Lytham.
But now its time – and its fine tipple – has come and the landlord says it is all down to a passion for pulling the perfect ale.
Alan Bedford has been landlord at The Saddle for just two years and said the small pub prides itself on producing the best-tasting ale on the Fylde.
He added: "It's not about how you pull it, or what you add to it, it's all about passion.
"I have been in the pub game for years now and I have always had a keen interest in real ale.
"Fortunately, The Saddle has one of the best cellars to keep ale in and my staff are excellent in knowing what to do.
"Having the expertise and the passion for pulling the perfect pint is all you need.
"That, and a whole load of punters to tell you how good their pints are!"
The Saddle has eight guest beers on every week during the year and six in reserve just in case they run out.
On a busy week, thirsty drinkers can empty 250 gallons of nectar.
Alan added: "We are delighted to have been given this award, it means a lot to me personally as it is always nice to be rewarded for something you feel passionate about.
"We don't want to stop here though. I would like to go and win the regional and national title now. Bring them on, I say."
Drinker Norman Wakefield, 73, has been a regular for 45 years.
He said: "It's the best pint I've tasted. Alan does a great job here and he deserves all the plaudits he gets."
And Paul Wilson, 70, added: "Without a doubt, this is the best place to get a pint on the Fylde.
"The Saddle will win everything if they carry on the way they are doing."
