Roundabout is a disaster
Further to a number of letters regarding the revised layout at the Red Bank Road roundabout and in particular the points made by Glen Adair (The Gazette, October 24) I completely agree with his comments.
The modifications are a complete waste of money having aggravated the flow of traffic rather than improving it.
This along with a number of other traffic management updates around the town seem to be aimed at stopping the flow of traffic rather tha
n improving it.
As it is the tax payers money that is being spent could the council supply us with the cost of this no brainer and details of the
perceived benefits of the scheme based on the traffic flow investigation that must have preceded approval of the alterations.
In other words will the traffic management department stand up and be counted
Finally I noticed in the Gazette (October 23) an advert for a Group Engineer (Traffic
Management), a Network Management
Technician and Two Trainee Traffic
Technicians who, and I quote, have the task of keeping the Highway Network operating smoothly!
Is this addition to the team intended to
prevent another Red Bank Road Spectacular or has it been decided that we need a a least another four staff members in the traffic
management department if we are to stop the flow of traffic around the town
altogether.

n I am writing in support of the letters you have published from George Caton and Glen Adair on the Bispham roundabout saga.
To describe something as a "joke" is
frequently over the top – but not on this
occasion. When I first went through the new roundabout markings I could not believe the
confusion and impracticability of the lane markings – they are confusing and dangerous.
It is difficult to believe that we have
actually paid someone to calmly sit down at a desk and devise a dangerous disaster such as this – a joke – a very bad one.
As Glen Adair says: "Efforts should be made to reverse this expensive joke without delay."

Mandleson return disgrace
Given the current crisis within the financial sector it is hardly
surprising the Government is railing against what are seen as
excessive and in the circumstances unwarranted payments to senior
executives.
However, in the eyes of the
financial sector the Government would probably have more credibility for its position if they did not read of Peter Mandelson who, having been forced to leave the Government on two separate occasions, has now been brought back into the Government and promoted into the House of Lords as Baron Mandelson of Hartlepool and Foy.
He receives a salary of £104,000 per annum and received a £1m pay-off and pension package from Brussels for serving as Britain's European Commissioner for four years.
Let's face it there are not many businesses where a man is twice forced to quit and then gets rehired on such a wonderful package.

Deserving doctor
I am writing regarding Dr Steve Mannion and the
wonderful work he
undertakes in Malawi.
Blackpool born, Dr
Mannion has his orthopaedic clinic for two weeks each month at Victoria Hospital Blackpool and two weeks working in Malawi, where he specialises in his work on club feet.
He has also re-introduced an old, but wonderful way of
making huge skin grafts from "crumbs" of skin with
minimum medical resources.
Surely this unassuming
doctor deserves recognition for his services from the
highest level.
Titles and medals are
distributed willy-nilly, like
lollipops, to actors film stars, popstars, TV presenters and the like.
So, come on, someone who is in the know, put in a good word to the honours list, for someone who deserves it.

Canatxx have not learned
Here we go again. Paul Grimes, the chief executive of Canatxx hopes that we will now be
reasonable?
We heard at the public enquiry that the plan to store gas was not reasonable and that was
confirmed by the Government who rejected the scheme.
Mr Grimes hates that sense and fairness will prevail.
It did last time around.
When Canatxx can prove that storing gas within a geological fault line and collapsing salt
caverns is safe beyond doubt, then is the time for an exhibition.
Until then, I suggest Canatxx leave us alone.

Help find toy lost on trip to resort
My family and I have just spent a lovely weekend in Blackpool to celebrate my in-laws' golden
wedding anniversary.
To have the family together in Blackpool where they married 50 years ago was wonderful.
My husband and I decided to stay on in Blackpool for a further day to show our three children the Illuminations.
My daughter Laura (three years old), as always, brought along her favourite toy "Froggy" (a Jeremy Fisher Beeny toy wearing a red jacket) but unfortunately between Central Pier and the Hilton Hotel he got lost.
She has had this toy with her for nearly three years so you can
understand the upset losing him has caused.
If any of your readers come across "Froggy" we would
appreciate it if he could be safely returned to his family.

Medic has safest hands
I was admitted to Victoria
Hospital with jaundice and had my gall stones removed.
I am now home – safe and well.
I would like to thank Dr.
Marraj at Elizabeth Street Surgery, Dr Dawn at the hospital and many others.
A special thanks to the night and day staff and nurses of Ward eight, for the care that they gave me and to the 'Gentle Giant', Dr Isaacs – the safest hands in the business.
