A FYLDE motorcyclist died in a tragic hit and run incident in Thailand, an inquest heard.
Peter Clayton, 29 from Lytham, was hit from behind by a taxi in Patong, on the holiday island of Phuket.

The inquest heard how the driver of the car, who police say was "driving carelessly", then rapidly fled the scene of the collision.

He is n
ow wanted by Thai police for causing death by careless driving, causing a crash, damaging property, failing to rescue others, not identifying himself and not notifying the police.

The police are yet to find the suspect despite Mr Clayton's family putting forward a $2,000 reward.

Blackpool coroner Anne Hind ruled a verdict of accidental death at the inquest yesterday.

She said: "If this had happened in the UK, we would have called it a hit and run.

"The police report says the car had come into collision with the motorcycle. Peter was completely blameless.

"The police have decided that the charges are of careless driving, not dangerous driving."

It is thought Mr Clayton, of Victoria Street, was wearing a crash helmet when the collision happened at around 10.30am on November 17 last year.

Consultant pathologist at Blackpool Victoria Hospital Dr Mark Sissons said: "Mr Clayton's injuries were mostly confined to the head. The brain was severely damaged but the skull was intact which leads me to think it is possible he was wearing a crash helmet."

Mr Clayton, who was born in Dublin but later moved to the Fylde with his family, had been working in Thailand selling timeshares.

The former St Bede's High School pupil was known by his family and friends as a 'lifelong adventurer'.

Peter's father, Ronald Clayton, said: "He was loving life and his work. He didn't take life seriously and loved the good life.

"The Foreign Office said the driver had still not been found. The family need this closure. He was my only son and his family miss him so much."
