THE Fylde's finest rubbed shoulders with pop royalty on a day one youth worker will never forget.
As Dave Blacker was waiting in Buckingham Palace after receiving his MBE from Prince Charles he spotted pop princess Kylie Minogue waiting in the wings.

And instead of getting starstruck Dave grabbed the opportunity for a chat and an autograph from the superstar, at the palace to receive her own OBE.

Dave, 55, from Layton, was one of two faces from the Fylde collecting their gongs from the Prince of Wales in the New Years Honours List.

Dave, a volunteer worker with more than 30 years experience of helping to run the Blackpool Boys and Girls Club at Laycock Gate, received an MBE while Fisherman's Friend owner Doreen Lofthouse picked up an OBE for her charity work and service to the business community.

Dave said: "Meeting Prince Charles was very good as he cares very dearly about the young people in Britain.

"He asked me to pass on his best to the kids at the club as this award is not for me, it's for them and Blackpool."

Mrs Lofthouse has helped transform a derelict engineering works into a thriving business.

Nice to see two fylde people receiving honours. Shame that the astounding charity work by the Lofthouse family does not extend to the workforce they employ.
