SITES for the first nine of Fleetwood's new crime-busting CCTV cameras have been pinpointed.
The £104,000 scheme will concentrate on the town centre,
Station Road and Esplanade areas with the Mount, Memorial Park and Poulton Street having to wait for a possible later phase.
But the development does not satisfy the Fleetwood Action Group which says it was promised 13 cameras by Christmas.
Group member Alan Marsh said: "We will have nine cameras, which is better than no cameras.
"At least people pressure along with pressure from the local community and The Gazette actually got them.
"I know money is tight, but eventually we would like to see what we were promised."
A Wyre Council spokesman said they hoped to have the equipment installed by the end of March at the
latest and that work would begin
immediately on monitoring facilities at Fleetwood police station.
He added: "It is possible more cameras could be installed in the
future, as the CCTV scheme in Fleetwood will be continually evaluated to ensure it reflects the needs of local people.
"As has proved successful in other areas, the cameras will be monitored at peak times."
Wyre portfolio holder for living safely, Coun Graeme Cocker, said: "The plan is, initially, to have the cameras in before Christmas. Things aren't certain in this world, but certainly that is the aim.
"If there are then any problems in other areas we could look at that, but I think we should let the system bed down."
The sites chosen are the junction of Albert Street and Victoria Street and the Lord Street junctions with Adelaide Street, London Street, Walmsley Street and Station Road.
Also on the list are the junction of Walmsley Street and Blakiston Street, near to the Milton Community centre; the junction of Station Road and Dock Street and overlooking the Esplanade opposite the North Euston Hotel and near to the Fleetwood Pier.
Money for the cameras has come from Wyre (£56,462), Lancashire
Police Authority (£18,000), Wyre community Safety Partnership (£15,000), North Lancashire Primary Care Trust (£5,000) and Wyre Housing
Association (£5,000).
A further £23,000 is anticipated from Lancashire County Council, bringing the total to £122,462 – more than enough for the nine cameras.

If group member Alan Marsh is on it's case, I would be more than surprised if they do not reach a positive outcome. In the last couple of years I have watched Mr. Marsh put all his energy into making things better for people and that's not just Fleetwood. Keep going Alan and the Fleetwood Action Group I believe you will get therein the end.
